PH NOTIFIES ICC FOR WITHDRAWAL CITING ROME STATUTE IS NOT APPLICABLE TO PH





On his twitter account Philippine Ambassador to the United Nations Teddy Locsin Jr. confirmed that a decision of withdrawal from International Criminal Court.  The PH has formally given a notice to the office of ICC UN Chief De Cabinet Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, as per directive President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
A letter addressed to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres stated “The decision to withdraw is the Philippines’ principled stand against those who politicize and weaponize human rights.



Burundi, Gambia, and South Africa attempted to withdraw from the ICC. Among is Burundi went to the process and officially left the tribunal last October 27, 2017.
The withdrawal came shortly after a prosecutor criticize the drug war which Duterte called it “baseless, unprecedented and outrageous attacks” Duterte added that the Rome Statute cannot intervene the PH government since it was not published in the Official Gazette or in general circulation.
