LIBERAL PARTY ALLEGEDLY USED P10.6 BILLION OF PHILHEALTH FUNDS FOR ELDERLY IN THEIR ELECTORAL CAMPAIGN IN 2016








The Liberal Party allegedly utilized the  P10.6 billion Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) funds for senior citizens in their electoral campaign in 2016. The funds was allegedly diverted in December 2015 illegally.

“The diversion of the PhilHealth fund intended for the benefits of senior citizens, for me, is a heinous act three times more cruel than the Dengvaxia fiasco,” Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito, chairman of the joint congressional oversight panel, said.

“I can only describe this act as heartless and insensitive to the condition of our senior citizens,” Ejercito added.

The committee therefore foresee charges against Ruben John Basa, former DOH secretary Janette Garin and PhilHealth president Alex Padilla jointly wrote a letter to then budget chief Florencio Abad requesting the transfer of P10.6 billion from the Miscellaneous Personnel and Benefits Fund (MPBF) in the 2015 budget for the DOH program.
